The History of Jefferson County Probation Department
Melissa Buckley started her career at the Jefferson County Probation Department on February 29, 1988 (Leap Year Day). On October 6, 2014, she was promoted to Senior Probation Officer and took over the supervision of the “Greatest Risk” caseload. Throughout the years, bits and pieces of departmental history have been gathered but it was never formalized into any document. With the approval and authorization of previous Director David D. Corey, Melissa volunteered to start formalizing this historical information. With the assistance of secretary Errin Thomas, she produced a booklet outlining the history of the entire department which included flow charts of all present employees and lists of all past and present employees. On June 15, 2017, the Jefferson County Probation Department held an Open House at which time this historical booklet was dedicated to previous Probation Director Kenneth Baker (1964-1991) who was present for the event. Melissa plans to retire on May 30, 2018 and we wish her the best with her future! Thank you for your years of dedication and devoted service Melissa!
